Public Policy Agenda

Respecting God's Creation

A commitment should be developed to understand and promptly address the relationship between human activity and climate change.
“The land must be conserved with care since it is intended to be fruitful for general upon generation.” (Pope John Paul II, Des Moines, Iowa, 1979). Prudence requires a careful study of climate change and the development of effective responses. To the extent to which climate change is the result of human activity, steps should be taken to correct the results of such activity.

Public policy should promote alternative energy and sustainable practices.
The MCC supports the development of alternative energy sources, technologies and sustainable practices that encourage conservation of natural resources. Tax credits and other incentives as well as government regulation should be considered in addressing this challenge.

The state of Missouri should cooperate with other states in addressing common environmental concerns.
Missouri’s coal-fired power plants contribute to greenhouse gas emissions that adversely affect the environment. Missouri should participate in multi-state and national efforts to reduce these emissions
