A federal judge in Philadelphia has issued a ruling that blocks implementation of the recently published Trump administration rules regarding contraceptives. The ruling states that the new regulations, specifically the exemptions for employers with religious or moral objections, are too broad and will “swallow the rule.”
A second federal judge in California issued a similar ruling. The Trump administration is evaluating the rulings and deciding what further steps to take. The rulings do not impact settlements reached between the federal government and the Little Sisters of the Poor and others who sued to be free of the contraceptive mandate, but they could impact other employers with religious concerns over the mandate.
