2012 is stacking up to be the third driest summer on record in Central Missouri behind 1976 and 1936, the first and second driest summers respectively. The fourth driest summer was 1980. The hot and dry weather has decimated crops and forced many ranchers to sell their cattle for lack of available pastures for grazing.
Whether you believe climate change is related to global warming or is just a natural phenomenon, there is no denying the fact that this has been an incredibly hot and dry summer in Missouri. Climate changes around the world most often impact the poorest of the poor and can lead to devastating results for those most vulnerable.
Catholics are called to be good stewards of the earth. We encourage our network members to educate themselves on the issue of climate change and its impact on all of us, and to consider taking the St. Francis pledge. For more information, click here
