Boyan Slat, the founder of The Ocean Cleanup project, began his mission at the young age of 18. Slat intends to clean the world’s oceans of plastic by the end of this century, and has raised millions of dollars to accomplish just that. He has set his sights on the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, an area of floating plastic waste in the Pacific Ocean as large as the state of Texas. He will deploy the first of what he hopes will be hundreds of floating collection devises later this year.
Many people have said a cleanup of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch simply can’t be done, but Slat does not agree. Is he crazy, or just plain inspired? Reply to this MCC Weekly Update to let us know what you think!
