Catholic Bishops Offer Annual Labor Day Statement

Every year the bishops issue a Labor Day Statement prior to our nation’s Labor Day holiday. This year’s statement reminds Americans that many of their brothers and sisters form the “working poor” in our country: “Over ten million families are ‘working poor’ – they work hard, but their jobs do not pay enough to meet their basic needs.” The statement goes on to explain that many of these individuals work two or three jobs, which puts a strain on their family life and their children’s well-being.
