Custodial Parent Notification Bill Passes House Committee

The House Health Care Policy Committee also gave approval to legislation, HB 1192, which would require custodial parents to be given notice in advance of a minor’s intent to have an abortion.  House Bill 1192 is sponsored by Representative Rocky Miller (R-Tuscumbia). Currently under Missouri law, only one parent must give consent for a minor to have an abortion.  A minor could have this life-changing procedure without her other custodial parent even being aware that she is pregnant.  Any custodial parent convicted of abuse of the minor or any of her siblings would not be entitled to notice.  The committee voted 9-3 to “Do Pass” the bill.
