Gov. Nixon Places Right to Pray on August Ballot

Gov. Jay Nixon

Gov. Nixon has placed on the Aug. 7 ballot a “right to pray” proposed constitutional amendment. The proposal declares that the right of Missouri citizens to express their religious beliefs shall not be infringed and that school children shall have the right to pray and acknowledge God in their school. The proposal will no doubt pass overwhelmingly.

But now Gov. Nixon faces a related decision: should he sign SB 749 so that people can not only pray but practice their faith in their daily lives? SB 749 ensures that people can refuse to pay for abortion or abortion drugs in their health plans if they have religious or moral objections. Pray that Gov. Nixon will act to defend religious freedom by signing 749.
