House Committee Hears Bill on Parental Consent for Abortion

The House Children and Families Committee this week heard testimony on HB 1383, sponsored by Rep. Rocky Miller (R-Lake Ozark), which would require a parent giving consent for a minor to obtain an abortion to provide written notice of the planned abortion to the other custodial parent of the child.  The Missouri House passed the bill last year, but it failed to pass in the Senate before the end of session.

The MCC testified in favor of the bill, which is expected to pass through the Missouri House again this year.  It’s fate in the Senate is uncertain at this point, but the MCC will be closely monitoring the bill to follow its progress.
