Many Capitol observers believe Medicaid reform and expansion legislation is dead for this year. This week the House Insurance Committee, however, approved an ambitious Medicaid plan that would offer health coverage to Missouri’s working poor while reshaping the program with reforms requiring more responsibility from recipients. The bill includes provisions creating a new program called Show-Me Healthy Babies that would provide health coverage to unborn children. The sponsor of the proposal, Representative Chris Molendorp (R-Belton), admitted the bill had little chance of passage. The legislative session ends Friday May 16. For more, read this article.
