Looking for Life in the Milky Way

A new study suggests our home galaxy is a dangerous place for life to survive, at least near the center where a density of stars and supernova explosions make a Mid-West thunderstorm seem mild by comparison. Better odds for life may be found at the edges of the Milky Way and in small “satellite” galaxies that orbit our galaxy. The new findings may cause researchers to point their telescopes in new directions. See this Science Magazine article for more.
