In April of this year the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences issued a joint paper reviewing the scientific assessment of the causes of climate change and offering recommendations for mitigating adverse environmental effects, especially in regards to the poorest people of the planet. See Climate Change and The Common Good to read this relatively short (10 page) paper.
Pontifical academies are independent entities within the Holy See that provide information and recommendations to the Holy Father. The papers issued by these academies do not represent official Church teaching but provide guidance and recommendations that a pope may consider in penning encyclicals and other messages. Pope Francis is expected to issue an encyclical on environmental issues this month. Stay tuned for more.
