Pope Francis: “Most of Us Were Once Foreigners”

Pope Francis addressed Congress just a few months ago, on September 24, but already that seems like a long time ago. With the increasingly harsh political rhetoric aimed against immigrants and refugees, it may be a good time to revisit some of the Holy Father’s remarks. In his address the Pope reminded America of its tradition of welcoming the “stranger” and noted: ” Most of us were once foreigners.”

In discussing the refugee crisis the Pope said: “We must not be taken aback by the numbers but view them as persons.” He spoke eloquently of the dreams of immigrants and asked, “Is it not what we want for our children?” Here is a brief video excerpt from Pope Francis’ address on this topic.
