This week, the Senate Judiciary Committee heard SB 793 sponsored by Sen. Wayne Wallingford (R-Cape Girardeau). Known as the “Raise the Age,” this bill would raise the age of juvenile jurisdiction from 17 to 18.
Currently, all 17-year-olds in Missouri are treated as adults in the criminal justice system, even though the vast majority are accused of low-level crimes. Missouri is one of only five states that still sentence 17-year-olds as adults. The MCC, along with many other groups, supported the measure. You can add your voice by sending this Action Alert to the Senate committee members and urging them to vote the bill “Do Pass”.
