This week, the Senate Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee voted 5-0 to pass the “Raise the Age” legislation. Sponsored by Sen. Wayne Wallingford (R-Cape Girardeau), SB 793 would raise the age of juvenile certification to age 18. The bill assures that youth charged with the most serious crimes can still be tried as adults.
Missouri is currently one of only five states that have not raised the age to 18. Thanks to all our network members who wrote to the committee in support of SB 793! The bill now goes to the full Senate for debate.
