Senate Committee Approves Bill to Raise Awareness of Human Trafficking

The Senate Transportation, Infrastructure and Public Safety committee this week heard testimony on HB 1246, sponsored by Rep. Patricia Pike (R-Adrian), that would require certain business establishments to hang a poster near their front door providing information about how victims of human trafficking can seek assistance, and including the phone number for the national human trafficking hotline: 1-888-373-7888.

The bill received overwhelming support from numerous organizations, including the MCC, and the committee voted the bill “Do Pass” the same day, a rare occurrence. Human trafficking has become a national scourge, as both women and men are being exploited and trafficked in what is being called modern-day slavery. To learn more about trafficking, click here.
