The Kansas City Star recently featured an in-depth article titled “The End of the Middle: How the Death of Compromise Crippled our Government.” Readers will no doubt disagree with some of the observations, but the piece is well worth reading. The broader point made in the article is certainly valid — American democracy can only survive if people are willing to talk to each other and negotiate solutions.
