Trump Reverses Course on Splitting Families at Border

President Donald Trump reversed course this week and discontinued a policy whereby children would be separated from their parents when they cross the border illegally. Earlier in the week, Archbishop Robert Carlson of the Archdiocese of St. Louis joined other U.S. bishops in opposing the practice, stating that a policy of forcibly separating children from their parents is “inhumane, morally unacceptable, and ineffective to the goal of deterrence and safety.”

In an interview with the news agency Reuters, Pope Francis expressed solidarity with the bishops on this issue, stating “[l]et it be clear that in these things, I respect the bishops’ conference.”
