This week the MCC worked with the Justice for Reggie Campaign and other groups, including the NAACP and Missourians for Alternatives for the Death Penalty, to sponsor events in the mid-Missouri area to bring attention to the case of Reggie Clemons.

Reggie Clemons, along with three co-defendants, were convicted of the 1991deaths of Julie and Robin Kerry who were forced to jump from the Chain of Rocks Bridge in St. Louis. Reggie received the death sentence, and came within days of being executed in 2009. From the beginning, many believed that the co-defendants were wrongly convicted and through the years serious claims of police brutality, coerced confessions, racism, and prosecutorial misconduct have come to light.

In 2009, the Missouri Supreme Court appointed a special master to review the evidence in Reggie’s case. This hearing was scheduled to start March 5, 2012, in St. Louis, but was recently postponed until September.
