In addition to learning about problems with starting up the Show-Me Healthy Babies program, members of the House Appropriations Committee on Social Services heard testimony detailing how lower-income pregnant women are having a difficult time being timely processed to receive prenatal care that is covered by Medicaid. Helen Risse, a nurse at Our Lady’s Inn, a pregnancy resources center in St. Louis, described how many of their clients are being put on hold by state officials when they seek Medicaid help with their prenatal care.
