Workforce Training Program Pulls Youth Out of Poverty

Using grant funds from the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, leaders of a St. Louis painter’s union in cooperation with St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay recently offered training to 15 young African American men from some of St. Louis’ poorest neighborhoods.

After almost four months of training, during which students rehabbed an abandoned building in St. Louis City, 13 graduated from the program, and 9 have been placed with local contractors.  Kamaal Prince, one of the students that completed the program, describes his life before and after the program in this video.
