Did you know that the new Missouri adoption records law will allow adult adoptees to have access to their original birth certificates? Adult adoptees will be able to access their birth certificates on January 1, 2018.
If you are a birth parent who does not wish to have your identifying information released to your child, you must file a Contact Preference Form with the Missouri Bureau of Vital Records before the adoptee requests his or her birth certificate.
The next Messenger, coming out in all four diocesan papers in late April, will focus entirely on this new law, and includes detailed information about how to fill out your Contact Preference Form. If you have any questions prior to the release of this Messenger, you may contact the Missouri Bureau of Vital Records by email at VitalRecordsInfo@health.mo.gov or by phone at 573-751-6387. You are also welcome to contact the MCC by phone at 573-635-7239 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
