Assisted Suicides Increase in Belgium, Called Social Contagion by Heritage Foundation

New research shows a rise of assisted suicides in Belgium. From 2007 to 2013, the rate of euthanasia increased from 1.9 percent to 4.6 percent of all deaths. There were also larger increases in deaths that may be attributable to practices such as alleviating pain with strong medication. The results are reported in the New England Journal of Medicine. Meanwhile, the Heritage Foundation has issued a new report on assisted suicide. Here is a Washington Post article by a fellow at the Heritage Foundation offering reasons why assisted suicide is wrong and represents bad public policy.
