Bill to Pre-empt Local Abortion Ordinances Moving Forward

A bill that would pre-empt local municipalities from enacting pro-abortion ordinances will be heard in the House Rules Committee Monday. HB 174, sponsored by State Representative Tila Hubrecht (R-Dexter), would also overturn an abortion ordinance recently adopted by the City of St. Louis. The move to enact pro-abortion ordinances is part of a new strategy by the abortion industry to circumvent pro-life laws passed by states such as Missouri. HB 174 could be debated next week if approved by the Rules Committee. Proponents, such as the MCC, Missouri Right to Life and Campaign Life, hope to have the bill passed by the House in the next two weeks so that after the legislative spring break the Missouri Senate can take up the bill.
