CBO Projections on American Health Care Act

This week the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) offered projections on the effects of overhauling the Affordable Care Act, should Congress pass the American Health Care Act (AHCA). According to the CBO, “Enacting the AHCA in the form recently passed by two Congressional committees would reduce federal deficits by $337 billion over the coming decade, but increase the number of uninsured by 24 million in 2026, relative to the current law.” The legislation would, for a one-year period, block federal funds to Planned Parenthood. Read the CBO Report for details, and also read this AP article that examines the CBO report and compares political rhetoric with what the CBO report actually says. In light of the information brought forward by the CBO, House Speaker Paul Ryan is indicating the bill will need some revision. The U.S bishops have issued a letter to Congress on the proposal.
