Consider Attending the Social Action Summer Institute

From July 20-24 at Washington University a Social Action Summer Institute will be sponsored by Catholic Diocesan Social Action Directors. This, the 28th annual institute, will have as its theme, “Setting the Captives Free: Embracing Christ in the Victim, Offender, and Community.”

Here is a brief outline of the schedule:

Sunday, Celebrate opening Mass with Bishop Emeritus Ramirez and in the evening, hear the voices of the victim, offender and the community;

Monday, hear Mark Umbreit, choose an immersion experience and visit 2 of 12 St. Louis organizations or correctional facilities that are rooted in restorative justice practices, and watch Prison Performing Arts;

Tuesday, learn from 3 nationally renowned speakers: Christi Griffin, Mark Umbreit, & Fr. Ron Chochol;

Wednesday,  hear Janine Geske, and visit 5 organizations that are in partnership with Catholic Campaign for Human Development Hear about a new SVdP & CCHD national collaborative on restorative justice and from CRS on international perspectives;

Thursday, choose from 16 informative & skills-building workshops led by St. Louis and national leaders in the restorative justice community, and envision a peaceful future with Fr. David Link.

The cost of the 4 1/2 day event, which includes registration, meals, and trips, is $300. There is a new offer of $85 for those who wish to attend for only one day.
