President Trump has declared large portions of Missouri a disaster area in response to the barrage of floods and tornadoes that savaged the state from April 28 to May 11. Assistance is available to individuals, businesses, and local governments and can take many forms, such as temporary housing, home repairs, and low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses. Individuals and businesses that have sustained losses can apply for help by registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). See this FEMA release for more details.
Missouri’s State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is playing the leading role in coordinating federal assistance for flood relief, as well as working with the Red Cross and other organizations. See SEMA for more. Also, keep in mind that diocesan Catholic Charities agencies provide assistance to people facing a variety of emergencies.
