Fr. Robert Barron, the keynote speaker for the 2015 MCC Annual Assembly in October, recently posted this video on his Word on Fire website in which he discusses the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling re-defining marriage to include the union of same sex couples.
Fr. Barron addresses the concern of many Catholics who fear that by ruling that same-sex couples have a “fundamental right to marry,” the decision will encourage the post modern notion that those who hold the traditional view that marriage is the union of one man and one woman are unreasonable or even bigots.
The Catholic Church has a history of facing down secular forces and governments in their attempts to challenge the truth and reasonableness of Church teaching. “Keep in mind,” Fr. Barron proclaims, “we’ve been through this before, and we’re still standing.”
