This legislative session, the Missouri General Assembly chose to address abortion through the budget process. They defunded Planned Parenthood, and significantly increased funding for the Alternatives to Abortion program. Both of these bills represent tremendous pro-life victories.
As this Update is issued, there are just hours left in the legislative session. It appears no action will be taken on several worthy abortion bills, including ones dealing with the disposition of fetal remains, and parental notification in situations involving separated custodial parents. The defunding of Planned Parenthood, however, is a big accomplishment along with increased funding for Alternatives to Abortion (ATA). Pregnancy resource centers will now have over $6 million to provide services to women facing crisis pregnancies. This will help women start a new life and save many unborn babies.
