Governor Greitens has called for the formation of a new task force, called the Justice Reinvestment Task Force, to address the state’s troubled correctional system. The task force will “follow a data-driven approach” to save money while ensuring public safety and prisoner rehabilitation. The Corrections Department has been plagued with low morale and discrimination complaints. Shortly after taking office, Greitens appointed a new Director of Corrections, Anne Precythe, to oversee the state’s 21 prisons. Precythe will lead the 22-person task force, which will deliver a report by year’s end and draft legislation for consideration in 2018.
