House Legislator Re-files Prescription Drug Monitoring Proposal

State Representative Holly Rehder (R-Sikeston) doesn’t give up easily. After falling short last session in her bid to reduce “doctor shopping” and abuse of painkiller medications, Rehder is back this year with a similar proposal.

HB 90 would require dispensers of controlled substances to submit to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services information on the drug prescribed, including the dosage and quantity, and the patient’s identification number, which may include a driver’s license number. Doctors and other health professionals would have access to the registry, which would allow them to ensure their patients are not abusing prescription drugs.

Last year Rehder’s proposal passed the Missouri House but the Senate failed to act on the bill. The MCC supports the creation of a prescription drug monitoring program.
