Iowa Bishop Calls for Prayers for Iraqi Christians

The Chairman of the USCCB Committee on International Peace and Justice, Iowa Bishop Richard Pates, is asking fellow bishops and U.S. Catholic parishes to offer prayers this Sunday for Iraqi Christians facing displacement and persecution.  Conditions in Iraq are increasingly unstable, and Christians there are being forced to leave their homes, businesses, and livelihoods by Islamic extremists.  Many Christians have fled to Northern Iraqi towns, but now need a safe place to live, as they face death if they refuse to renounce their Christian faith.
