Justice Reinvestment Task Force Meets

In June, Governor Eric Greitens signed an executive order creating the Justice Reinvestment Task Force to develop policies that improve public safety, reduce corrections spending and find strategies that can reduce crime. This week the committee held a third presentation that focused on crime and recidivism. Among the key takeaways from the presentation were that reducing recidivism is critical to controlling prison growth; violent crime rates are high and have started increasing, and that Missouri faces the need for building a new female prison at a huge cost. The task force will meet Nov. 28 to present policy options on addressing these concerns.
