The Missouri House has passed a proposed state constitutional amendment to limit the growth of state spending but the Senate has a different idea about how this should be done including making tax credits subject to state appropriations. A Senate committee added the tax credit provision to HJR 34.
The Missouri Catholic Conference (MCC) has no position on the original version of the proposal but is seeking to protect the benevolent credits from the vagaries of the often very political appropriation process. These credits provide incentives for people and businesses to donate to pregnancy resource centers, maternity homes, food pantries, and other charities that serve Missouri’s most vulnerable citizens.
The MCC anticipates Senate debate on HJR 34, including the tax credit provision, in the final weeks of this year’s session. Stay tuned for more.
