Mass Returns to Mosul

After a three-year occupation of Mosul in Northern Iraq by the Islamic state, Mass has returned to the city. Mosul served as the self-proclaimed capital of ISIS in Iraq during its occupation of the area. During that time, all vestiges of Christian culture in the area were destroyed, including much of the Saint George monastery, as reflected in this story. This week, however, as Christians slowly return to the area, Mass was once again celebrated in the monastery.
