Margaret Ann Mhoon, the winner of this year’s Citizen Recognition Award from the Diocese of Springfield/Cape Girardeau, was not able to attend the Annual Assembly this year to receive her award. But she got a very special surprise this week when Bishop Edward Rice presented the award to her personally.
Margaret Ann has devoted much of her life to helping others through Catholic teaching in and out of the classroom. Her parish members say she can be found anywhere and everywhere there is a need for help, including the prison and county jail, where she prays and listens to inmates. Margaret Ann has held many titles over the years, mostly volunteer, that all relate directly to the improvement of life through Catholic principles. Beyond her volunteer work, those closest to her say she always has a smile and is known for saying when things or people are not nice to you, “throw more spiritual bouquets at them. Things will get better.” Please keep Margaret and her great work in your prayers!
