Missouri closely tracks the national picture on births to unmarried women. A 2013 study by researchers at the U.S. Census Bureau discussed results from the American Community Survey (ACS), a nationwide survey conducted annually that provides an array of demographic, social and economic data. According to the ASC, in 2011 35.7 percent of births to women aged 15 to 50 were to unmarried women. In Missouri the percentage was a bit higher – 37 percent, representing 28,929 births to unmarried Missouri women.
