Pope Francis Condemns Murder of Priest in France

An 85-year-old Catholic priest was murdered this week by two men, who claimed an association with ISIS, as he celebrated Mass with a small congregation outside of Paris in France.  The killing is the latest ISIS attack in Europe, leading one to wonder when the bloodshed will end.

Pope Francis condemned the killing, calling the attack “absurd violence,” especially since it occurred in church, a sacred space for communion with God.

Fr. Jacques Hamel worked well beyond retirement age (75 for priests), kept in shape and continued serving the local Catholics in the working class town in Normandy.  According to those who knew him, he was loved by all.

Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.
