Pope Francis Makes Stop at Auschwitz During World Youth Day Event in Poland

Pope Francis included a visit to Auschwitz during his visit to World Youth Day in Poland which continues until this Sunday, when pilgrims will meet for a Mass in a large field outside of Krakow.

The Pope didn’t make a speech at the memorial or offer any remarks.  However, his decision to follow in the footsteps of St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI by visiting the site makes it clear that honoring those killed through acts of genocide is something the Church must do.
