Monday, August 14, is the memorial of St. Maximilian Kolbe, priest and martyr. He is often called the Saint from Auschwitz because of his heroic act of taking the place of another prisoner condemned to die. Both Christians and Jews revere him. Father Kolbe dedicated his life to Mary, the Immaculate, and even founded a Polish city in her honor, where he took in Jewish refugees.
