This week, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved SB 770, sponsored by Senator Wayne Wallingford (R-Cape Girardeau), that would require ambulatory surgical centers performing abortions in Missouri to undergo annual on site inspections by the Missouri Department of Health. The bill also requires that any inspection and investigation reports derived from these inspections be made available to the public.
The one remaining abortion clinic in Missouri is located in St. Louis and has recently been under scrutiny due to the numerous incidents over the last few years in which ambulances have been summoned to transport women for emergency medical care. Annual inspections would ensure that the clinic in question is meeting all requirements under the law. The bill now heads to the Senate floor for further debate.
