Senate Committee Approves Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination Bill

The Senate Progress and Development Committee voted Do Pass on SB 237, sponsored by Senator Joe Keaveny (D-St. Louis), which would prohibit discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations based upon a person’s “sexual orientation and gender identity.” The committee voted 3-1 to pass the bill out of committee.

The MCC offered testimony in opposition to the bill when it was heard earlier in the session, raising concerns about the implications for religious liberty and rights of conscience.  The legislation now moves to the Senate floor for possible debate.
