Show-Me Healthy Babies Program Discussed by Appropriations Committee

This week the House Appropriations Committee for Social Services learned about problems besetting the new Show-Me Healthy Babies program, which is designed to provide prenatal care to unborn children. Funding is available through the federal Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), but first the state must obtain a State Plan Amendment. Sam Lee of Campaign Life told committee members that the Nixon administration had not asked the federal government for the amendment, even though the law passed last year by the general assembly required him to do so. Lee suggested the committee appropriate funding for Show-Me Healthy Babies as part of an effort to get the Nixon administration moving on the program.
