Speaker of House Calls for Investigation of the Department of Corrections

This week Speaker of the House, Rep. Todd Richardson (R- Popular Bluff), called for an investigation into the Department of Corrections after reports surfaced that the department was supporting a culture of harassment and retaliation in their prisons.  According to a recent story in The Pitch, Missouri has paid millions of dollars in damages to employees who alleged they were harassed at work because of their sex, religion or disability, and were retaliated against.

“We cannot and will not tolerate what appears to be a pervasive culture of sexual harassment that is also costing taxpayers millions of dollars,” said Richardson in a statement.  Richardson promised to work with the new administration to ensure that this inappropriate behavior doesn’t continue.
