The Senate Committee on Jobs, Economic Development and Local Government also heard legislation (SB 638) that would expand the tax credit available for those donating to pregnancy resource centers (PRCs). State Senator Gary Romine (R-Farmington) wants to raise the credit’s cap from its current $2 million to $2.5 million. The MCC testified in favor of SB 638, as did a Birthright Agency from St. Charles, Campaign Life, and Missouri Right to Life. It was noted that more PRCs have been formed in recent years and the cap needs to be raised to allow more participation. Opponents included Planned Parenthood and NARAL. The committee took no action on the bill. A companion House bill – HB 1132, sponsored by State Rep. Kevin Engler (R-Farmington), also received a public hearing this week. The MCC testified in support of this bill as well.
