U.S. Supreme Court Strikes Down Texas Abortion Statutes

In a 5-3 decision the U.S. Supreme Court this week struck down Texas pro-life statutes aimed at protecting women’s health in abortion clinics. One statute required abortionists to have privileges at a local hospital, and another required abortion clinics to meet the requirements of ambulatory surgical centers. Missouri has similar statutes, the viability of which are now uncertain.
The ruling is a blow to pro-life advocates like the MCC, who have worked to pass these kinds of statutes to protect women’s health and prevent the operation of unregulated clinics like those uncovered recently during the Kermit Gosnell incident in Philadelphia.
The MCC will continue to work for common sense laws to protect the unborn and their mothers. Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!
